The completion of the process of transforming the energy sector regulatory body into an administrative institution independent of the supervisory body, whose main vocation will be the setting of prices and tariffs, is one of the sector’s immediate priorities, according to the Minister of Energy and Water.
João Baptista Borges spoke to the press on the sidelines of the International Conference “Renewable Energy in Angola 2022”, which took place, on the 5th and 6th, at the Dr. António Agostinho Neto, in Luanda, in an organization of the Ministry of Energy and Water (MINEA), in partnership with the Lusophone Association of Renewable Energies (ALER) and the Angolan Association of Renewable Energies (ASEAR).
This event was marked by the presentation of several panels, with emphasis on the themes “The Institutional and Legal Framework”, “National Energy Profile” and “Renewable Energy Projects”, in which senior staff from MINEA, ALER, National Transport (RNT), IRSEA; ASAER National Directorate of Electric Energy, PRODEL, ENDE, World Bank, Eni, Total Energies, Biocom, Berkeley Energy and Sonangol.
The head of the Energy and Water portfolio revealed that his department will continue to invest in state public partnership projects (PPP) in order to reduce asymmetries in the supply of electricity between the different regions, with priority being given to the completion of photovoltaic park projects. in the least benefited provinces to overcome the current 42.8 percent of the population with access to electricity service and the current 3,000 MW of installed capacity.
“We are looking to reach around 55 gigawatts. There is now an investment being made, with a capacity for 370 mw of solar energy”, he said.
