Africa-Press – Angola. The meeting in the capital of Equatorial Guinea, between 11 and 14 April, takes place when “250 million people in Africa do not have enough food to eat every day, close to a billion people on the continent do not have the money to buy nutritious food.” and when countries continue to struggle with the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic”, underlines the UN Food and Agriculture Agency (FAO).
Agriculture ministers, government officials from across Africa, civil society groups, private sector representatives, development partners and observer member countries will for four days seek solutions to address food insecurity, climate change and other challenges on the continent.
The event is expected to hold several round tables, where issues such as political priorities for post-pandemic recovery and the impacts of Covid-19 on African agri-food systems, investment in ecosystem recovery, investment promotion and business; or strategies for placing women, youth and the poor at the forefront of more inclusive agri-food systems. The regional conference is FAO’s highest governing body in Africa.
