Africa-Press – Angola. The number of reports and complaints on matters related to consumer rights increased from 48 to 69, during the year 2023, in the province of Cunene, a fact that demonstrates the strengthening of legal culture on the part of citizens, according to the provincial director INADEC, Bernardo Hilundilwa.

In a statement, regarding the 15th of March, World Consumer Day, the person responsible said that the complaints relate to the exercise of basic rights, such as the supply of goods and services, health, free choice, repair defects and access to essential services, such as drinking water and electricity.

In the field of dispute resolution, he said that the National Institute for Consumer Protection (INADEC), in the province of Cunene, mediated 22 consumer conflicts, which allowed the restoration of legality to consumers by companies that provided poor service and sold products in poor condition.

Still in the period under analysis, he said that 68 awareness campaigns were carried out on matters related to consumer rights, which in a certain way has contributed to maintaining the relationship between suppliers and buyers.

As a result of these actions, he considered that there is greater awareness among citizens about their rights, which has resulted in an increase in public complaints and sanctions against bad service providers.

Bernardo Hilundilwa reinforced the appeal to consumers with compromised rights to contact INADEC, the Criminal Investigation Service or ANIESA, avoiding disputes with suppliers.

World Consumer Rights Day aims to raise awareness among people as consumers about their rights and needs.

The date was inspired by the speech of the 35th President of the United States, the first world leader to address the issue of consumer rights, having defined four fundamental rights: the right to security, the right to be informed, the right to choose and the right to be heard..

In Angola, article 78 of the Constitution of the Republic, on Consumer Rights, determines that “the consumer has the right to the quality of goods and services, to information and clarification, to the guarantee of their products and to protection in the consumer relationship.
