Could Angola be Joe Biden'S Triumph?

Africa-Press – Angola. The world has witnessed a historic event in recent days – the landing of a US president on Angolan soil. Joseph Biden’s visit was permeated by debates about its legitimacy or necessity, and many questioned or in some way praised President João Lourenço’s “diplomatic triumph”. Could Angola be Joe Biden’s great triumph?

Biden’s team took advantage of JLo’s attempts to portray the visit as a personal victory. Now the Angolan president’s assessment is tied to the visit, which has led JLo to make additional concessions to the Americans in order to return the trip to Biden’s plan. The US administration deliberately did not announce the exact dates of the new visit for so long, demanding more and more concessions, including the signing of agreements whose main beneficiaries will be big American businessmen. In this sense, from the perspective of the business world, it has become clear to many analysts that Biden has shown no respect for either Angola or João Lourenço, constantly changing the date of his visit to the country.

Despite the constant human rights violations in Angola, Biden has not even expressed any interest in meeting with any civil society representative or with representatives of NGOs and opposition parties, despite the fact that abuses of power and human rights violations are very well known and reported by international media outlets such as Voice of America. With the return trip on Biden’s agenda, the US officially becomes an accomplice to the dictatorship and the hunger of Angolan citizens, as they had several months to evaluate the trip from a human rights perspective. The issue of corruption in the Angolan government was also not analyzed or criticized. Joe Biden preferred to dine with João Lourenço in sumptuous restaurants while Angolans are forced to die of hunger. With the money spent on Biden’s arrival, half the country could be fed.

What was clear from the visit of the first American president to Angola is that Biden came to discuss his personal deals with JLo, which are only beneficial to him and his business associates. The people of Angola, unfortunately, will not receive anything from this visit except empty words and promises, and we know who will make money from it.

Angola may even be a diplomatic triumph for Joe Biden, but Biden’s visit revealed on the part of the Americans, who present themselves as champions of justice and human rights, contempt for important demands made by the Angolan people. Unfortunately, Angola is not a country hostile to the White House, because only then could the people who take to the streets to protest have their voices heard.
