Court begins trial of SIC official accused of aggravated homicide

Africa-Press – Angola. The Provincial Court of Malanje started Wednesday, the trial of a person responsible for the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), accused of the crime of qualified homicide of a 30-year-old young man.

The crime took place in the early hours of September 2, 2022, inside a commercial establishment, in the center of Malanje, when the accused, allegedly in an attempt to break up a feud between rival groups, fired two shots, one of which hit the victim in the chest region.

At the time of the facts, the agent held the position of head of the municipal department of the Malanje SIC.

In the first session of the hearing, the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Roberto Bernardo, said that there were indications that the defendant acted freely, deliberately and consciously.

In the indictment note, the Public Prosecutor’s Office emphasizes that, after the shooting, the accused fled, without, however, helping the victim.

In turn, the defendant’s representative, Noé Mucadi, refuted the accusation, stressing that it was not the accused’s intention to shoot to death, as the shot was accidental and resulted from an attempt to restore order and public tranquility in an area of frequent occurrence of crimes.

For that reason, it considered contradictory the fact that the Public Prosecutor’s Office classified the crime as aggravated homicide, instead of negligent homicide.
