Court Orders Arrest of Ex-Kwawa Administrator for Defamation

Africa-Press – Angola. The Lubango District Court, Huíla province, ordered, this Tuesday, the arrest of the former administrator of the Kwawa neighborhood, Francisco Rodrigues Jaime, for alleged crimes of slander and defamation against the provincial governor, Nuno Mahapi Dala, and the municipal administrator of Lubango, Lisender André.

According to a ruling signed by Judge Edna Bebecas, which the Press had access to this Wednesday, the accused, aged 44, is guilty of the crimes provided for in articles 272, 279, 262 and 263 of the Penal Code.

According to the ruling, which does not name the complainants, the individual, a teacher at the Kwawa school complex no. 16, saw the coercive measure of identity and residence terms changed to preventive detention, by order of the Court, for repeated violations of the law.

The judge ordered that any court officer, police officer or public force agent must take the defendant to a police station if they see him.

Francisco Rodrigues Jaime calls himself a “political and social activist” and his actions are characterized by campaigns against some State authorities using pamphlets, letters addressed to Embassies, protests on social media, without material evidence, according to judicial authorities.

He was responsible for the then administrator of Lubango, Armando Vieira (now managing Benguela) for four years, having lost the position in 2024.

This is the second time that the Lubango Court has ordered Francisco Jaime’s arrest. The first time was in 2019, for the same reasons, but he was never tried.
