Africa-Press – Angola. The Mitingue, Muaguenji and Luavur City folk dance groups will represent the province of Lunda-Sul in the 4th edition of the “Ngeya Festival”, to be held in July in Lunda-Norte.
The “Ngeya Festival” is an annual event of traditional music and dance from the eastern region of Angola, organised and sponsored by the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, with the support of the governments of Lunda-Sul, Lunda-Norte and Moxico.
The event aims to preserve and promote local culture, as well as promote the work of traditional artists and groups.
In statements made this Thursday, the director of the Provincial Office of Culture and Tourism of Lunda-Sul, Felisbela Sapato, said that the groups in question come from the municipalities of Dala, Muangueji and Saurimo, and are made up of 20 members each.
He added that this edition will also feature a variety of dance styles, such as Mitingue, Txianda and Macopo, unlike the last event which only featured Txianda.
“The best groups in the province were selected, and are currently focused on rehearsals, with a view to representing Lunda-Sul with dignity,” he stressed.
Regarding the lyrics of the songs to be presented at the event, he stressed that they portray the daily lives of the communities, encouraging education, health, as well as the aggregation of moral and ethical values.
In June 2024, Lunda-Sul hosted the 3rd edition of the Ngeya Festival, with the participation of 100 artists from the East.
The project was launched in June 2022 in Lunda-Norte and has paid tribute to groups, instruments or artists who have contributed significantly to the development of local culture.
