Cunene defends investments in mineral resources

Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Department of Mineral Resources in Cunene, Ester Paca, this Thursday, in Ondjiva, appealed to national and foreign investors to bet on the prospecting and exploitation of miners in the region.

In an interview, regarding the celebrations of the 27th of April, Mining Worker’s Day, he said that the municipalities of Curoca, Cahama and Cuvelai, are considered a power in mining (granite and quartz).

He appealed to national and foreign investors to invest seriously in the prospecting and possible exploitation of these still virgin areas and with great indications of the existence of gold and diamonds.

“We want investors to boost the activity in order to allow the creation of more jobs for youth, as well as contribute to the collection of revenue for the State coffers”, he said.

He informed that, in the first quarter of this year, seven quartz blocks measuring between seven and eight cubic meters were explored in Curoca, exported to China.

He informed that, in the period in question, 90 cubic meters of aggregates were explored in Namacunde and allowed the collection of 56 thousand kwanzas.

Ester Paca advised companies to legalize their inert exploration activities, so as not to incur fines of around two million kwanzas.

The Provincial Cabinet for Integrated Economic Development of Cunene controls 14 companies licensed to explore aggregates.

The Angolan Mining Worker’s Day was established 38 years ago, in recognition of the role played by miners in the national economy, within the scope of Resolution No. 6/85 of 15 April.
