Africa-Press – Angola. After the strike that took place on Monday, due to delayed wages, the 1.o de Agosto football team resumed training this Tuesday, at the França Ndalu Stadium, the stage for Wednesday’s game (4pm) with Académica do Lobito, to settle the 11th round of the “Girabola2023-24” National Football Championship.
Regarding the strike, the vice-president for football, Paulo Magueijo, acknowledged the failure of the “military” team due to the delay in processing wages for the month of January.
He said that, on the same Monday, the athletes saw the amounts reflected in their respective bank accounts and this Tuesday they resumed work, to welcome the “lobitangas”.
He explained, however, that the club still owes salary for the month of February in relation to the current season, while for the old players and technical team there are more months to be paid, and he was not specific in relation to the numbers.
He added that the club, due to the financial crisis, has been working so that the liquidation process is continuous and quickly puts an end to the wave of debts owed to athletes, coaches and other members of the community.
The inability to pay dates back to September 2021, when 1.o de Agosto was subject to a cut in its monthly budget from 800 million to the current kz 200 million, by the Ministry of Finance.
The club, founded in 1977, is currently the subject of an audit.
The 1st of August involves football, handball, athletics, basketball, judo, karate, swimming, taekwondo, clay pigeon shooting and chess.
