Africa-Press – Angola. Deputy Mihaela Webba defended, this Tuesday, the consensus to accommodate the 41 families who, last April, abandoned the building “Lote 1” of Prenda, Maianga district, in Luanda, due to the risk of the building collapsing .
At the time, the aforementioned families received from the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) an offer of residences in the “Maye Maye” housing project, in the municipality of Cazenga, which they rejected due to an alleged lack of living conditions.
Speaking at the end of a visit by MPs from the UNITA Parliamentary Group to the building (Lot 1), Mihaela Webba said that consensus between the parties is necessary, to avoid delaying the resettlement of the affected families.
He promised, however, that the UNITA Parliamentary Group will work with the 10th Commission of the National Assembly in search of solutions with the Government and if this situation is overcome.
The 10th Commission of the National Assembly deals with Human Rights, Petitions, Complaints and Citizens’ Suggestions.
The former residents of the five-story building, built more than 50 years ago, were evacuated last April by the authorities, after the building registered several vibrations in its structure.
In the same condition as the residents of Lot 1, there are some inhabitants of houses located in the immediate vicinity of the evacuated building, who were also evacuated as an emergency when the building threatened to collapse.
This was the second situation, in less than a year, of families being evicted from buildings built in Luanda 50 years ago.
The first occurred in a six-story building on Avenida Comandante Valódia, which collapsed without causing any casualties.
