Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the political, economic and social sector of Cuanza Sul, Emília Tchinawalile, urged, this Friday, in Sumbe, parents and guardians to reinforce measures to protect the rights of children, for the healthy development of children.
Speaking at the opening of the Provincial Social Action Forum, the official condemned acts of physical and sexual violence against children, highlighting the importance of protecting their rights within families and society.
On the occasion, the vice-governor stressed that, since 2004, the Angolan Government has held, on a biannual basis, national forums on children, which have made it possible to assess the degree of compliance with the 11 commitments assumed at central, provincial and municipal level in favor of protection, survival and development of children.
“We must care for and protect them with love. Unfortunately, in our society, the drama of family breakdown and the loss of values such as respect for life is visible. We are also faced with the growth of the phenomenon of avoiding fatherhood and motherhood, sexual violence against children and on many occasions by members of the family itself”, she lamented.
For her part, the director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, Marta Muhongo, said that the forum aimed to balance the actions developed in favor of children in the last five years and put into perspective the programs to be implemented in the five-year period. 2023/2027.
Under the motto “Municipalize the 11 commitments to better protect the child”, during the event the participants analyzed the themes “Provincial strategy for the development of education and care in early childhood”, “The degree of fulfillment of the 11 commitments of the child”, “Functioning of the child protection system at provincial and municipal level” and “Strategy for the social inclusion of children with disabilities”.
Members of the Government and the Provincial Council for Children, judges and public prosecutors, municipal administrators, Social Action, Family and Gender Equality officials, religious entities and traditional authorities participated in the meeting.
The event serves as an antechamber for the VIII National Forum on Children, to be held from the 29th to the 30th of June in Luanda.
