Africa-Press – Angola. Illegal diamond mining and fuel smuggling continues to motivate the illegal entry and stay of foreign citizens in the province of Lunda-Norte, especially from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to the spokesperson of the National Police in Lunda-Norte, Domingos Muanafumo, last weekend, 1,286 DRC citizens were detained for illegal entry and stay in the national territory, who were settled in mining areas in the municipalities of Dundo, Canzar, Camaxilo, and Lóvua.

He said that after administrative and immigration procedures, the immigrants were repatriated.

The Police spokesperson said that at least five tons of wood, 2,260 liters of fuel and ten diamonds were seized, which will be handed over to the General Tax Administration and diamond company ENDIAMA E.P. as faithful custodians.

Launched in October of this year, Operation Connection aims to combat illegal immigration, illegal mining, the trafficking of diamonds, fuel smuggling, and related crimes.
