Diplomat Considers April 4Th as the Beginning of a New Cycle of Identity for the Angolan Nation

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister Counsellor and Chargé d’Affaires of the Angolan Embassy in Switzerland, Estêvão Alberto, considered, last weekend, that April 4th 2002, the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, was the beginning of a new cycle of identity for the Angolan nation.According to the diplomat, quoted in a press release, this date has made us “learn to rebuild, to reconcile and to dream again”.

Speaking at the event marking the anniversary in the Swiss Confederation, Estêvão Alberto stressed that “when we look back today, we see that peace has offered us valuable achievements such as political and military stability, diverse economic growth, expansion of infrastructures and a more open political space aimed at healthy and democratic coexistence”.

“These 23 years do not only represent the time that has passed, but also symbolise a living testimony of freedom, harmony, unity and fraternity among Angolans from Cabinda to Cunene and from the Sea to the East, after long and painful decades of armed conflict”, he said.

Cultural moments such as dance, music, poetry and the parade of traditional Angolan costumes also marked the event, which was attended by around hundreds of guests.
