Diplomat Highlights Feb 4Th Legacy as a Symbol of Resistance

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Balbina da Silva, highlighted on Wednesday (06) the legacy of February 4th as a historic moment, a symbol of resistance, unity, and determination of the Angolan people.

According to a press release from that embassy, the date should be viewed with respect and responsibility because February 4th, which marks its 65th anniversary, paved the way for the Independence proclaimed on Nov 11, 1975, and shaped the national identity.

She stated that remembering this moment is to revisit the spirit that inspired the struggle, to understand the sacrifices that made the construction of a sovereign Angola possible.

On the other hand, she reaffirmed the importance of passing down to new generations the moral and historical heritage that sustains the nation.

Thus, he added, the celebrations taking place under the motto: “Preserving the Values of the Homeland, Let Us Honor Our Heroes” reinforce the Executive’s commitment to national cohesion and to valuing all regions of the country.

She stated that this motto recalls historical memory and is not merely an exercise in evocation, but rather a commitment to duty and to knowing those who gave everything for the Angola freedom.

Balbina da Silva emphasized that the 2026 commemorations are taking place in a challenging global context, where the Angolan govt has reaffirmed its commitment to macroeconomic stability, economic diversification, and improving the families’s living conditions.

For this reason, programs such as Kwenda, the Monetary Social Transfer Program, the PIIM, and initiatives to support school meals continue to play an essential role in promoting social inclusion and protecting the most vulnerable populations.

“May the example of the heroes continue to inspire every Angolan in and outside the country, to contribute, with a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility, to harmonious development, social justice, and the consolidation of peace,” she stressed.
