Africa-Press – Angola. A group of 100 Electoral Civic Education Agents starts its activity this week in Menongue (Cuando Cubango), with the aim of raising awareness among citizens qualified to vote in the General Elections on 24 August.
In the municipality of Menongue, the largest electoral square in Cuando Cubango, the electoral agents, who have recently completed their training, are being distributed in teams, with the aim of working in the four communes and raising the citizens’ Electoral Civic awareness.
Speaking to the press, the president of the Municipal Electoral Commission of Menongue, Jacob Chissaluquila, said that the electoral agents are properly prepared to carry out their work successfully in all the communes and in other locations of this municipality, with more than 380 thousand inhabitants.
He referred that the agents will pass on information to the citizens on how the polling stations will work, voting order, counting and tabulation, monitoring and electoral observation, within a message of peace for the success of the election on 24 August.
The National Electoral Commission, pursuant to article 107 of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, is an independent body that organizes, executes, coordinates and conducts electoral processes, in addition to mobilizing all electoral logistics.
Angolans will go to the polls on the 24th of August, for the fifth time, to elect the President of the Republic, the Vice-President and the deputies to the National Assembly. The first four took place in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.
For the next election, seven parties and a coalition of political parties presented candidates, namely the MPLA, UNITA, PRS, CASA-CE, FNLA, PHA, APN and P-NJANGO.
More than 14.399 million voters are expected at the polls, of which 22.560 are abroad, which will happen for the first time in the electoral history in Angola.
Country Level Training
In all provinces of the country, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) officially opened, on the 21st, the training of trainers of Electoral Civic Education agents who, in turn, will pass the experience on to others in the municipalities, communes, villages , towns and in the most remote areas of Angola.
According to the CNE, the Electoral Civic Education campaign has approximately 6,000 Civic Education agents, 385 provincial and 80 national trainers, with the mission of making voters aware of the process that precedes the General Elections, in order to be convinced of what they will be doing.
Its objective is to inform voters and the population in general about the different phases of the Electoral Civic Education campaign, promote social inclusion and voter participation in choosing the President of the Republic, the Vice-President of the Republic and the deputies to the National Assembly, in addition to making known the dates, locations and the polling station, voting time, as well as promoting the political and social environment of political tolerance among citizens.
The campaign will work in three phases. The first on the importance of citizenship, democracy, rights and duties of the citizen, in a Democratic State of Law and General Elections, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Angola and the Organic Law on General Elections.
The second (Electoral Civic Education) will inform and clarify, sensitize citizens to verify data and recognize the location of polling stations and polling stations.
The CNE will facilitate the consultation of data and the location of polling stations, through the action of Electoral Civic Education Agents who, using electronic devices and other auxiliary means, will visit public and private places for this purpose.
Reinforce citizen awareness, promoting activities that appeal to the active and conscious participation of voters, with messages for the conservation of voter cards or Identity Cards, respect for the differentiation of opinion, political tolerance and the exercise of individual freedoms and citizenship , responsibly, is in the last phase of the campaign.
