Africa-Press – Angola. The former president of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, visiting Angola for the purpose of the 1st International Women’s Forum for Peace and Democracy, ended her working day in the country with a visit to the Dr. António Agostinho Neto (MAAN).

Accompanied by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, and other Forum participants, the former stateswoman learned about some areas of the MAAN, including the sarcophagus where the remains of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, rest.

In the Memorial’s open honor roll, Ellen Johnson wrote “I’m overjoyed.”

In the end, without making any statements to the press or those present, the former president of Liberia, visibly happy, waved her hands goodbye to everyone.

In turn, the MAAN museum guide, Francisco Simão, said that the place has received a significant number of foreign tourists, especially on Thursdays and Fridays, days when it can receive 600 people.

National tourist Fernanda Esteves highlighted that this is the first time she has visited the MAAN and that she feels honored to have the ex-president of Liberia in the caravan.

In turn, the representative of women from the Ministry of the Interior at the Forum, Joaquina da Silva, expressed gratitude for the visit to that historic place and for having had contact with a world-class figure, as is the case of Ellen Johnson.

Other figures were present at the 1st International Women’s Forum for Peace and Democracy, including the former Vice-President of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell Barr, the UN Women Representative of Mozambique, Maria Salazar, national ambassadors and ambassadors from other parts of the world, among other entities.

The 1st International Women’s Forum for Peace and Democracy was an event for reflection, debates and exchange of experiences on Peace and Democracy at an African level.

“The challenges of globalization in the process of gender empowerment”, “Technological innovation and education to achieve gender equality”, “Formalization as a mechanism for social and financial inclusion”, “Challenges of food security and climate change on the African continent ” and the “Role of women in consolidating peace and preserving conflicts”, were the subjects scheduled for debate at the international meeting.
