Africa-Press – Angola. The proposed Long-Term Strategy (ELP – 2050) presents viable solutions for promoting the country’s sustainable development, said this Friday, in Cunene province, the Secretary of State for Planning, Milton dos Santos Reis.

Speaking at the provincial public consultation meeting on the proposal, he said that the ELP is an instrument of the National Planning System, which dictates strategic options for sustainable development for the country.

Milton Reis said that the ELP constitutes the main tool that, in the long term, will make it possible to align the policies to be developed in different actions of the social and economic life of the country.

For this purpose, he explained that it was prepared, foreseeing development scenarios, both at the national level and at the sectoral and territorial level.

According to the official, the document is a version of the old proposal for the 2020-25 Long-Term Strategy.

He explained that the review, initiated in 2017, is based on three factors, the first of which results from the assessment carried out in 2017, where the lag of the previous proposal was verified, due to the drop in oil prices and, subsequently, the implications from Covid-19.

He recalled that the economic crises registered in 2008/2009 and from 2014 to 2016, as a result of the drop in the price of a barrel of oil, had a great impact on achieving the results of the previous strategy.

In turn, the vice-governor for the Political, Economic and Social sector of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, said that the Executive wanted to transform the strategy into a document capable of adjusting to the most diverse contexts.

Apolo Ndinoulenga called for the participation of all social actors so that a broad and more realistic consensus can be reached in responding to the expectations of the Angolan population and the province.

ELP-Angola 2050 is a document based on five axes, namely (I) Diversified and prosperous economy; (II) Modern and competitive infrastructures, valuing and enhancing human capital, (IV) Resilient and sustainable ecosystems and (V) A fair nation with equal opportunities.

Several social actors participated in the meeting, including members of the Government, magistrates, traditional authorities, members of defense, security and internal order bodies, representatives of political parties, with seats in parliament, academics and civil society organisations.
