Africa-Press – Angola. The energy, environment and climate change sectors are highlighted as the priorities of the strategic vision of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), with a view to the sustainable development of this region.
According to the community’s executive secretary, Zacarias da Costa, who spoke during the 1st CPLP Energy and Climate Seminar, organized this week by the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe, it is necessary to develop activities that promote the sharing of knowledge, to foster intercommunity cooperation.
In turn, the director of the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association (ALER), Isabel Abreu, considered the reality of the energy sector as transversal to all CPLP countries, reflecting challenges and opportunities for the Lusophone community.
The permanent representative of São Tomé and Príncipe at the CPLP, Esterline Gonçalves Género, said that the problem of energy transition appears increasingly urgent, requiring a combination of individual and collective efforts to find effective solutions for environmental sustainability.
The 1st CPLP Energy and Climate Seminar, held in Lisbon, Portugal, focused on the role of private investment, with the aim of boosting cooperation and dialogue between public and private entities in member countries.
Identifying climate financing opportunities and discussing the regulatory role for implementing energy transition projects is also part of the event’s objectives.
At the event, Angola was represented by the president of the PRODEL Board of Directors, Pedro Afonso, and administrator of ANPG, Artur Custódio, in addition to the participation of other representatives from CPLP Member States.
This is the first in a series of seminars that aim to encourage the sharing of experience and the exchange of good practices between CPLP countries, within the scope of the energy transition, as well as promoting public-private complementarity of financial resources in energy projects. sustainable.
The 2nd Seminar is scheduled for October 10, 2024, in the city of Praia, Cape Verde.
