EU Invests €403 Million in Good Governance in Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. Since 2021 the European Union (EU) has invested €403 million in three areas of action with the Angolan Govt, such as strengthening good governance, human development and economic diversification, within the scope of its Multi-Annual Plan that runs until 2027.

The information was made official by the EU ambassador to Angola, Rosário Beto Pais, at the 10th Steering Committee of the Angola Programme for Strengthening Resilience and Food Security (FRESAN), that took place in the province of Huíla on Thursday and Friday.

The ambassador highlighted that the EU’s Multi-Annual Plan 2021-2027 has three areas of action with the Angola Govt, such as good governance, human development through education and vocational training, as well as economic diversification, with support in several sectors.

Among these sectors, she highlighted fisheries, agriculture, sustainable tourism through the protection of exclusive areas, the circular economy and other points.

She stressed that to work in these three areas there is a global investment strategy called “Global Gateway”, which aims to use not only European public funds for the period 2021-2027.

“Through that, we also intend to leverage funds from the private sector and European financial institutions, working in cooperation with them and with several Member States attending this meeting. This will increasingly be our modus operandi in the future”, she stressed.

The event served to analyse, discuss and set the direction of the project in the next and final phase of its implementation, assessing the progress achieved, the challenges faced and the opportunities that still exist to strengthen resilience and food security in the provinces of Namibe, Huíla and Cunene.
