Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Angola, Rosário Pais, highlighted, this Monday, in Luanda, the efforts of the Angolan Executive in the effective fight against organized crime and money laundering.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the Workshop on Money Laundering and Related Crimes, aimed at judicial magistrates, he said that the Government has demonstrated a firm will to protect itself against these crimes.

On the occasion, the diplomat highlighted the achievements achieved by the Angolan Executive in the most varied areas, with progress in legislation, good international practices, specialized services and training of professionals in money laundering and related crimes.

“Training judges to combat corruption and money laundering is important for investment and economic diversity because it will help attract investors, as they will not come to Angola if they know that there is not a business environment that is conducive, which is why This workshop is important for economic and social development and job creation”, he highlighted.

He highlighted that the workshop is promoted within the scope of the Pro-React project, financed by the EU with an investment valued at two million euros, with an execution period of four years.

He recalled that the EU has a financing program for the period 2021/2027 in three priority areas, namely economic diversification, governance and human development.

In turn, the resident coordinator of the UN System in Angola, Zahira Virani, considered the event to be fruitful, justifying that it will contribute to strengthening the judicial system and combating financial crime.

“We know that money laundering is a global, dynamic and complex threat, therefore it is essential to equip judges with technical knowledge so that they can make fair and impartial decisions, in accordance with the law and good practice, which is why we are committed to support Angola in its efforts to strengthen its system to combat this crime”, he added.

Lasting six days, the workshop is organized in partnership with the Supreme Court and the Academy of Social and Technological Sciences (ACITE) and has the participation of 80 judges.
