FABOXE Plans to Host Senior African Tournament in HuíLa

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Boxing Federation (FABOXE) intends to hold the African Senior Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Huíla province, scheduled for September or October of this year.

This intention was expressed by the president of FABOXE, Carlos Luís, during a meeting with the leaders of boxing clubs and academies in Huíla, where he revealed that the Federation is interested in organizing the event in Huíla and winning it.

He highlighted Huíla’s experience in organizing events, given that it hosted the Zone IV African Boxing Championship in 2017 in the city of Lubango.

To hold the event, he stressed that the organization must first count on the willingness of local agents, which has already been expressed, as the National Team will have to be in Huíla months before the competition for training.“As soon as it’s approved, Huíla will have to get to work. We’ll have to conduct training cycles not only for coaches and judges, but also for officials, which will be good for the province,” he emphasized.

Regarding the state of the sport in Huíla, Carlos Luís said it should be better, as there is a willingness on the part of those involved to work, and he hopes for results in terms of local quality and in competitions with other provinces.

He recommended that sports associations legalize themselves and have their boxers registered, as well as all their members, so that FABOXE (the Huíla Boxing Federation) can have organized statistics to direct projections in terms of training.

Regarding the boxing ring, Carlos Luís said there is willingness and the province will have one within three months; however, he recommends that the location where it will be set up be properly prepared so that the investment is not vandalized.

Regarding the training center project, he emphasized that they are working towards it and currently need approval for the desired area, but the goodwill makes all the difference in realizing the intention.

Among the challenges faced by clubs and academies of the sport in Huíla are the lack of materials and equipment, a ring for training and tournaments, and permanent sponsorships to support participation in national championships and other activities.

The possible candidacy of Huíla to host the African championship has filled Algeria with sports leaders, who foresee it as an incentive for the sport, aiding the technical development, especially of boxers, coaches, and referees.
