FAF wants to make Huíla a continental sports reference

Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Huíla has the necessary conditions to be the “great” capital of the sport in the country and a reference in Africa, said in Lubango, the president of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), Artur Almeida e Silva.

The sports director was speaking at the end of the workshop on the new online club licensing platform of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) aimed at 14 African federations, in one of the hotels in the city of Lubango.

Artur Almeida e Silva said that he has been talking to the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, for two years and he thinks it is time to carry out a series of sports activities in the province and the seminar turned out to be the first, to encourage the holding of other events .

“The province has good sports infrastructure, a very strong sports culture, starting with school sports and the conditions given, both in terms of moral and material support to perform, so the Federation is committed to bringing more events like this,” he said.

In addition to workshops, he referred that the FAF plans to hold competitions at the level of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA), mainly male and female, as well as the CAF itself later on, bringing some qualifiers and games to the province of the national team.

He added that similarly to what it does in Luanda, the FAF can do it in Huíla and in other provinces of the country, as the Federation’s general assemblies are already held outside the country’s capital, in order to bring diversity in the discussions of the topics addressed.

For his part, the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, stressed that the workshop held on CAF’s new online licensing platform marks the beginning of a new moment and the province is available to bet on the modality with staff capable of maintaining what they have , but the primary objective is to evolve into competitions.

“We can continue to do more and better for our football in the province. Events like these and others will take place in Huíla, because we believe that not only do we have human resources able to streamline and make better use of our infrastructures”, he continued.

He stressed that the connection with the FAF will continue to boost local football, as they have talent, conditions for Huíla to present theirs and be able to compete at local, national and international level.

The three-day training was aimed at training users of the online club licensing platform and updating them on the new CAF club licensing regulations.

It also aimed to ensure that associations are ready to communicate licensing decisions before the deadline set for club engagement in CAF 2023/2024 men’s and women’s interclub competitions.
