Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Philippine Consular Services, Megan Brechet, expressed on Friday in Luanda the interest of Filipino businesspeople in developing various projects in the tourism sector in Angola, particularly in the southern province of Namibe.

The diplomat made the statement on the sidelines of the First Angola-Philippines Business Forum, under the theme “Sustainable Tourism: Paths to Economic and Cultural Development.”

Megan Brechet said that a delegation of Filipino businesspeople will soon visit Angola to assess opportunities in the tourism sector, beginning with the province of Namibe.

In Namibe, the diplomat said, the delegation will begin cooperation in the field of tourism to assess the potential and define the projects to be invested in.

“Namibe will only be the starting point, as Angola has enormous untapped natural tourism potential and the Philippines has a lot of experience in this field, so we intend to develop sustainable projects,” Brechet said.

The diplomat said that tourism in the Philippines contributes 8% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and that this sector directly employs more than 13 million people.

On the occasion, the president of the Angola-Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Investment (CCIAF), Américo Magarinhos, said that the forum’s objective is to present the country’s tourism potential, gather experiences from the Philippines, and begin to attract investment for future projects.

According to him, there are already contacts with Filipino businesspeople interested in investing in sustainable tourism in Namibe.

The CCIAF president highlighted the potential and business opportunities in tourism in Namibe province, focusing on Iona National Park, one of the oldest in Africa, which has great biodiversity and ancient rock formations.

Américo Magarinhos also emphasized Baía dos Tigres, an unspoiled destination for ecotourism and adventure tourism in the Namibe desert, with its giant dunes and the legendary Welwitschia Mirabilis (a plant that lives for over a thousand years), as well as the culture of the Mucubais, a pastoral people with ancestral traditions.

“The province of Namibe is a perfect destination for investments in luxury hotels, ecotourism, adventure tourism, and cultural itineraries,” he argued.

The First Angola-Philippines Business Forum was an initiative of the Angola-Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Investment aimed to promote tourism in Angola, contributing to economic growth and the country’s integration into international circuits and promote sustainable tourism for local communities and job creation.

Created in 2024,CCIAF plays a vital role in bringing the two markets closer together, facilitating business, investment, and the exchange of knowledge between peoples and business entities.
