Africa-Press – Angola. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, will participate in the 57th plenary session of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) parliamentary forum in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on June 2.
The Angolan delegation includes deputies Luísa Damião, Ruth Mendes, Pedro Sebastião, Domingos Mussokola, and Teresa Neto.
The session runs until June 7 and is themed “Using Artificial Intelligence for Effective Parliamentary Processes in the SADC Region: Experiences, Challenges, and Opportunities.”
During the event, reports from the Forum’s various working committees will be presented and analyzed. This includes the Committee on Trade, Industry, Finance, and Investment, which is chaired by Angolan Deputy Ruth Adriano Mendes.
In his capacity as President of the host country and of the SADC, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, will deliver the opening address at the 57th Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum.
The SADC Parliamentary Forum is a regional interparliamentary organization comprising members from 14 national parliaments in southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Established on September 8, 1997, during the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the community, the Forum’s main objective is to provide a platform for dialogue that supports and improves regional integration through parliamentary participation, as well as to promote best practices in the role of parliaments in regional integration and cooperation.
