Africa-Press – Angola. Fishermen in the commune of Barra do Dande, northern Bengo province, said that the subsidy measure in the price of gasoline is a relief for the riverside communities.
Affiliated to four fishing cooperatives, the fishermen underlined that the measure will make the families maintain their daily work without any inconvenience.
They requested that the cards be made available as soon as possible so that they could continue to benefit from the price of 160 kwanzas per liter of gasoline.
So far, many non-licensed boats are licensing their vessels with the municipal administration to acquire the cards, the head of Cooperativa Sala Kiako, Afonso José Avontade.
Despite the delay, he said, the fishermen are calm and expectant, he underlined.
Ventura Dias dos Santos, from the Mukengueji cooperative, said that the Executive’s initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to boosting the fishing sector.
Emília Manuel Domingos, from the Sala kiako cooperative, wants to speed up the card delivery process so as not to complicate the fishermen.
The provincial director of Transport, Maria Eugénia, assured that the licensing process for the vessels was proceeding at a good pace.
Barra do Dande has four cooperatives, with 66 members, of which 46 are women and 20 are men. These are the cooperatives Mukengueji, Sala kiako, Nosso Sonho and Solo Nascente.
In the commune, 189 artisanal motor vessels are controlled, of which 133 are registered at the headquarters of Barra do Dande and in the locations of Sarico, Catumbo and Pambala.
Fishermen buy motorboats on the islands of Luanda and Cacuaco at a price of over one million kwanzas.
To improve their activity, local fishermen are asking for a fuel pump.
