Africa-Press – Angola. Five citizens were summarily tried and convicted this Thursday, by the Belas District Court, for the crimes of vandalism and participation in a riot.
According to the prosecution, the events occurred during the riots that occurred during the taxi drivers’ strike, when the defendants vandalized the facilities of the Angomart and Arreiou supermarkets, located in the Golf 2 neighborhood.
According to Judge Edith Albino, the citizens were caught trying to steal property that did not belong to them, caught red-handed on the public highway, on Luther Rescova Avenue, while fraudulently vandalizing public and private property, stealing various means.
Regarding defendant João Grosso, we have no doubt that the defendants committed the crime they are accused of, given that they were on the street, amidst a tumultuous gathering of people, while vandalism and vandalism were taking place throughout the city of Luanda. Public Prosecutor Valter da Costa states that the troublemakers now detained are considered the main culprits of the vandalism and riots in the country’s capital.
It is found that there is sufficient evidence that the defendants Cândido João, João Grosso Ferreira, Genilson Paciência Miguel, Cristiano Gonçalves and Quintas Mendes, now suspected, committed the crime of participating in a riot, which is punishable by article 298 no. 2. It is hereby requested that the case be submitted to court for the trial of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Magistrate, Valter da Costa and the five citizens convicted of acts of rioting and looting in the city of Luanda.
In addition to the penalty, each must pay 25,000 kwanzas in court fees and two thousand kwanzas for the public defenders.
The defense, in turn, disagreed with the court’s decision and filed an ordinary appeal with suspensive effect.
