Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Egídio de Sousa Santos, highlighted the focus on improving the troops’ living and working conditions in order to guarantee the fulfillment of the mission.
In a message at the end of the year, the Army general reaffirmed some goals for 2023, including the improvement of quartering conditions and technical-material assurance, restructuring and equipment, especially in the national air force and navy.
Egídio de Sousa Santos also highlighted the commitment to military diplomacy in contributing to the peaceful resolution of armed conflicts in some parts of the Great Lakes region.
He referred that in 2022 the Angolan Armed Forces fulfilled the mission of guaranteeing the defense of the Homeland and the best interests of the Nation.
The head of the General Staff of the FAA pointed out that at the level of the sub-regions, in which Angola is inserted, there was a record of the support provided by the Angolan Armed Forces in some countries in the reinforcement of regional and international cooperation to guarantee the security of the region. .
As for the training of cadres, he highlighted the courses in schools, institutes and military academies in the country and abroad, some of which ended successfully.
In his speech, he thanked the contribution of those who, with courage, firmness, dedication and high professionalism, fully fulfilled their obligations, dignifying the uniform they wear and the oath given before the national flag.
The Angolan Armed Forces represent the symbol of national unity and were created on October 9, 1991.
The institutionalization of the FAA embodies the materialization of the provisions of the Bicesse Accords (Portugal), initialed in 1991, between the Angolan Government and UNITA, by under which the former Popular Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA), the government army, and the extinct Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FALA), then the military arm of UNITA, were merged.
The FAA essentially embodies the highest values of patriotism and citizenship. Human nature makes it an authorized national representation, insofar as it incorporates the diverse ethnic-racial, cultural and tradition mosaic of heroic resistance struggles, defense of Independence and the country’s sovereignty.
