Africa-Press – Angola. General Jorge Manuel dos Santos “Sukissa”, who died on July 31, 2022, will be honored today with a photographic exhibition and a religious mass at the Congregation of Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, in a ceremony open to guests, family, friends and comrades in arms.
According to the tribute program to which Jornal de Angola had access, the photographic exhibition, entitled “Comandante Sukissa: A life dedicated to the Angolan homeland”, will have a musical background by the Jinga Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Carlos Caetano.
The document also states that the mass in honor of General Sukissa will be celebrated by Father Pedro Chingando, parochial vicar of the Parish of S. João Maria Vianney (Morro dos Veados), assisted by Fathers Venâncio Nunda, Paulo Bunga, Isaac Cassinda and by deacon Jesus Cavela, all of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette.
According to the organizers of the initiative, a year of nostalgia is justified by the size of General Jorge Manuel dos Santos “Sukissa” and deserves to be “remembered for his exemplary qualities and love for the Angolan homeland”.
They consider that the 31st of the current month marks the 12 months of General Sukissa’s departure for eternity. “The end of his earthly pilgrimage left an irreparable gap in the Angolan nation”, underlined in a statement the promoters of the activity.
“We remember with enormous respect and admiration the remarkable qualities that defined him as a courageous soldier, disciplined officer, skillful negotiator, fearless commander, exemplary man and head of the family”, they reinforce, stressing that “from a young age, General Sukissa has shown an exceptional commitment with a military career, a passion that drove him to join the ranks of the Angolan Armed Forces”.
They also emphasize that Commander Sukissa stood out as a loyal, courageous and fearless soldier, always putting himself at the forefront in the most dangerous operations, inspiring his companions to face challenges with bravery and determination.
“His devotion to the country, the Angolan people and duty was unshakable and his sacrifice for the Fatherland made him a true example of leadership and patriotism, which will be remembered with pride by all”, emphasize in a statement the organizers of the tribute.
Endowed with exemplary discipline, General Sukissa always led by example, placing ethics and integrity above everything else, which is why, justify the promoters of the tribute, “his posture as a disciplined officer inspired respect and admiration, both among his companions in arms, as among all who knew him.”
They also emphasize that, “endowed with a unique ability to lead, the general masterfully commanded different military units throughout the military path, being recognized by peers as an inspiring leader and respected by subordinates as a dedicated mentor”.
The ability to make difficult and strategic decisions at crucial moments, recognized the mentors of this Monday’s tribute, made Commander Sukissa a “key figure in the theater of military operations”, which is why “the ability to lead and motivate men at his command was remarkable”.
According to the organizers of the posthumous tribute, Sukissa understood the importance of teamwork and led the troops wisely, achieving extraordinary results in the most varied situations.
On academic benches, General Sukissa stood out as a brilliant student, constantly seeking to improve his knowledge and skills, and his commitment to education contributed significantly to the modernization and efficiency of the military operations he commanded.
Sukissa was recognized as a scholar passionate about geopolitical and geostrategic issues, as well as history, Angolan culture and environmental issues. This constant search for knowledge enriched his strategic vision, allowing him to approach challenges with innovative and sustainable perspectives.

The same document highlighted General Sukissa’s “valuable legacy”, which should inspire new generations of soldiers and citizens, “from the perspective of willingness to selflessly defend the country and contribute to its stability and development”.
He also pointed out that General Sukissa was committed from an early age to the cause of defending Independence, sovereignty and the country’s territorial integrity, performing various functions of command, direction and leadership, “with unusual pride, dedication and patriotism that earned him the respect and admiration of the military class and the Angolan people”.
FAA EMG expressed deep dismay
The General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (EMG/FAA) also expressed, a year ago, deep dismay at the death of General Jorge Manuel dos Santos “Sukissa”, until then commander of the Angolan Navy (MGA), victim of disease in Luanda.
In a statement, the EMG/FAA stated, 12 months ago, that General Sukissa was admitted, the day before his death, to the Sagrada Esperança Clinic, after complications of a clinical nature, having been promptly assisted by the medical staff of that health unit, where would die.
