Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, arrived in the central Huambo Province on Thursday as part of his state visit to Angola, which began on Tuesday.
Upon arrival at Albano Machado Airport, the German statesman was received by the provincial governor, Pereira Alfredo, and the Foreign minister, Tete António, who is accompanying him on his travels.
During his stay of a few hours in the province, the German Head of State has scheduled visits to projects of scientific, humanitarian and cultural importance, namely the Bioveterinary Center and Animal Vaccine Production Factory, the Princess Diana Center for Medicine and Physical Rehabilitation, as well as the facilities of The HALO Trust non-governmental organization.
The Bioveterinary Center, which is currently under construction, represents an investment of over 125 million euros and is expected to produce vaccines for various cattle species, aiming to guarantee national self-sufficiency and cooperation within the agricultural sector.
The Princess Diana Center, in turn, is one of the country’s leading spots for physical rehabilitation, standing out for its production of prostheses and orthoses, as well as for providing free services to people with physical and motor disabilities.
At The HALO Trust facilities, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will learn about the demining work that led to the declaration of Huambo province as “mine-free”.
His visit program also includes a train journey between the cities of Huambo and Caála, a 23-kilometer route, where the German statesman will visit the Nossa Senhora do Monte Sanctuary, a spiritual and tourist landmark of the region.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s visit to Huambo is part of the support for cooperation between Angola and Germany, whose diplomatic relations date back to 1979.
The two countries maintain a comprehensive partnership, signed in 2011, covering the fields of energy, infrastructure, science, agriculture, and technical and vocational training.
