Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Moxico for the Political, Economic and Social sphere, Victor da Silva, this Saturday in Luena, encouraged the business class to invest in setting up fuel stations in the region’s municipal headquarters.
The government official, who was speaking at the symbolic delivery ceremony of the first 364 gasoline subsidy cards to local taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers, considered it necessary to expand this service in remote areas, on structural roads and in municipal headquarters to facilitate the process of supplying road means.
Of the nine municipalities that make up the province, only three have fuel filling stations, namely the provincial headquarters (Moxico), Luau and Camanongue.
On the other hand, he reiterated that the government remains committed to guaranteeing security and organization to transport operators in carrying out their activities, as well as enjoying the benefits of the subsidy.
In turn, motorcycle taxi driver Coji Chipango was satisfied with the act, stating that he will be able to carry out his activity normally, since he will continue to purchase gasoline at a price of 160 kwanzas, promising to maintain the value of the ride, which varies between 200 to 400 kwanzas, depending on the distance.
The president of the Provincial Association of Taxi Drivers, Samuel Carlos Natepa, highlighted the importance of the act, however he called for the need to resolve, urgently, the opening of more fuel pumps in the interior of the province, as well as a greater scope of the process.
The distribution of subsidy cards follows the government’s recent decision on the gradual withdrawal of gasoline subsidies in Angola, in force from the 2nd of this month, with the price of this oil derivative rising from 160 to 300 kwanzas/ liter.
The new gasoline price does not cover taxis and motorcycle taxis, as well as the productive sector (agriculture, fisheries, industry, among other areas), which will continue to benefit from the State subsidy.
As a result of this measure, taxi drivers, motorbike taxi drivers and those in charge of boats are benefiting from cards for exemption from the new price of petrol, with the aim of ensuring the normal circulation of people and goods.
The cards are personalized, with the registration of the means of transport and are non-transferable, allowing you to continue paying a liter of gasoline at the price of 160 kwanzas, instead of 300, depending on the new price list in force.
In the province of Moxico, the first phase of delivery of subsidy cards covered 364 taxi and motorcycle taxi drivers, 1,587 licensed.
