Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, reiterated this Friday, in Luanda, the forecast for Angola to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2027, depending on the growing national agricultural production capacity in the country.
Speaking during a dialogue with journalists, the official considered that this is an achievable goal, through the execution of production promotion plans, such as Planagrão, Planapecuária and Planapesca.
The minister indicated some products that are on the way to self-sufficiency, including corn production, with a significant increase since 2020, a fact that will allow the Strategic Food Reserve (REA) not to import this cereal this year.
On cassava production, Victor Fernandes revealed that its production for this year is estimated at 11 million tonnes.
Bananas are another product in full production, points out the official, where Angola ranks among the largest producers in Africa.
In this chapter, Victor Fernandes said that the cooking oil factories in the country have the installed capacity to produce enough quality to feed the country.
Regarding the industrial processing sector, the portfolio holder revealed that this sector has registered a growth of 6% and, for this year, it is estimated that it will reach seven percent growth.
The minister called for investment in an industry that seeks local raw materials, with a focus on agricultural, animal, mineral and naval production.
At the meeting, with media professionals, the Minister of MINCOM, Victor Fernandes, presented the balance of the execution of public policies in the sectors under his tutelage, during the calendar year of 2022, of the first half of 2023 and projections on what remains of the year.
The “Dialogue with the Minister” is a transparency initiative of this ministry, for the scrutiny of government action, based on the political orientation slogan for the 2023-2027 government cycle, “Work More and Communicate Better”.
