Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan President announced that the Government will approve support for companies affected this week, in several provinces, by acts of vandalism, which he classified as “sabotage” against the economy.
The measures, according to President João Lourenço, will be approved next Monday and aim to allow for the rapid replenishment of stocks and the maintenance of jobs threatened during the riots.
Preliminary data from the Association of Modern Commerce and Distribution Companies of Angola (Ecodima) indicate that six commercial chains were actually vandalized, totaling 91 sales units, while 24 others registered attempted vandalism, in the cities of Luanda and Malanje.
In a message to the nation, the Head of State said that this episode only confirms that the education of Angola’s children and young people is not found on social media platforms and networks, which have no face or identity, but in the family, at school, and in the community committed to Angola’s present and future.
Therefore, he continued, society must conclude that the State, the family, churches and civil society organizations still have much work to do in the areas of civic, moral and academic education “of our adolescents and young people.”
For João Lourenço, whoever orchestrated and led this criminal act “was defeated and helped us all, the Executive and society, to take preventive measures and better ways to react in the event of a recurrence, with a view to minimizing damage to people and property.”
The President of the Republic strongly condemned the criminal acts in question, which resulted, according to the latest preliminary data, in the death of 30 people and the injury of 277 others, in addition to more than 1,500 arrests.
He lamented the loss of human lives during such “criminal acts” and expressed, on his own behalf and that of the Angolan Executive, deep condolences to the bereaved families and best wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
