Africa-Press – Angola. The Government will acquire 246 vehicles out of the 700 planned to support the General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH – 2024), due to the use of vehicles from the 2014 Census, informed in Luanda, the Minister of State and Head of Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado.

The reduction from 700 to 246 comes from the use of vehicles from the 2014 Census and vehicles from the 2022 general elections.

He also said that 70,000 tablets will be purchased to ensure census takers for the Census, to be held on July 19th of this year.

Regarding the process, the Minister of State made it known that, in some provinces, the process has already ended, with the updating of the cartographic network at 73%.

Francisco Furtado says that, at the moment, two commissions are directing the competitions for the acquisition of resources.

He stressed that the logistical conditions are being created, organizing the volume of tablets and vehicles necessary to ensure the Census.

The minister highlighted that there is a global involvement of society, particularly the provincial governments, the Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior and all units of the National Police.

“We hope to raise awareness and teach people about the importance of the Census, about the importance of everyone registering so we can know who we are, how many we are, where we are and what we do”, he added.

Governors ensure public awareness

On the occasion, the governor of Cuanza Sul, Job Capapinha, reinforced that the province had reached 100% of cartography, and should support the province of Benguela to reach the same pace.

“We have no problem raising public awareness. There is an excellent combination even in national languages. Everyone is participating and understanding,” she stressed.

He added that residents are eager to know “how many there are and where we are”.

The governor of Cabinda, Mara Quiosa, says that it was hard work carried out by the teams working on the cartographic process completed by the province, “fortunately, at this moment, Cabinda already has its cartographic map fully updated, the commitments we made are now the our technicians move to the province of Uíge, to support that province in the process”.

He assured that the location that should store all the resources has been identified and that, “at any moment, it should arrive in our province. We have all our teams on the ground, we have already started with the awareness work”.

For his part, the governor of the province of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, emphasizes that the vision involves having, among the staff who will be recruited to support this operation, local young people who, certainly, with “knowledge of the local language , will facilitate the communication process with communities”.

He stressed that the Census is not a primary act, “we already bring the experience of the last one, in the pilot phase the difficulties were noted. It is necessary to combine efforts to have diversified means, vehicles, motorbikes, for small gatherings, as well as boats”.

The governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, recalls that Luanda is the province with the highest population density, where the teams were reinforced to be able to complete the cartography of the capital and “thus facilitate all this action that is being planned for the Census/2024 ”.

The government official says that “we are aware of some challenges, but at the province level, we recently held a coordination meeting with municipal administrators and provincial teams, to assess the difficulties that are being faced and encourage the participation of our provincial teams”.

The training seminar for the Coordinators of the Provincial Multisectoral Support Committees for the 2024 Census takes place in Luanda, with the participation of provincial governors and vice-governors.
