Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of Malanje, Marcos Nhunga, defended Tuesday, the need to create a strong and comprehensive school sports movement, with the gradual inclusion of all students in the practice of sport.
According to the leader, this measure also involves providing assertive management of school clubs and athletes, with a view to stimulating taste and the discovery of talents for all modalities of federated sport.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 11th edition of the national school games, which Malanje hosts until the 31st of this month, the governor said that championships of this kind are also an opportunity for inclusion and social harmony between teachers, students, sports agents and guardians .
“School games should be seen as the basis for ensuring future sports competitions at the country level, taking into account that through these, talent can be found”, he stressed, adding that it is also a mechanism of education for citizenship, enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
In turn, the Secretary of State for Pre-School and General Education, Pacheco Francisco, considered that school sports have been conquering their space in the country, depending on the levels of student participation, in addition to forging the transmission of moral values and contribute to occupying the free time of adolescents and young people.
Meanwhile, he appealed to physical education teachers to be more proactive in repairing students, so that they can identify their talents, among other interests.
Meanwhile, the National Director of Sports, Nicolau Daniel, highlighted school sports as an event that promotes humanitarian, educational and ethical values, as it plays a fundamental role in the access of young people and adolescents to federated practice, in addition to contributing to emotional balance and students’ behavior.
The event has the participation of 711 elements among students, physical education teachers and leaders from 16 provinces of the country, with the exception of Zaire and Benguela.
During 10 days, several matches will be played in the modalities of football 11 and indoor, handball, basketball and athletics, in both genders.
The opening was marked with the holding of the inaugural men’s handball game, in which the Malanje team beat the province of Namibe, by 10/23.
