Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, highlighted yesterday, in Menongue, the importance of financial education for families, as a way of allowing greater capacity for resource management and sustainable development.
José Martins made this statement at the official opening of the 11th World Money Week, whose motto is “Achieving Financial Resilience and Financial Well-Being”.
At the level of Cuando Cubango province, the National Bank of Angola, through the Southeast Regional Department, is going to hold various events until the 1st of April.
On the occasion, the governor recalled that all forms of people’s finances are extremely relevant, thus justifying the World Money Week as a way to raise awareness among populations worldwide, and especially the new generations, about the use of money with ” wisdom”, to reserve income for the future.
For him, financial management actions are implemented by various means, highlighting training and capacity building with the help of educational institutions, both in secondary and higher education, which already include subjects related to economics, financial administration and entrepreneurship in their curriculum.
On the occasion, José Martins defended the continuous need to train the population in matters of financial management, with a view to boosting the economic development of the province, with a focus on agriculture and agribusiness, as he considers them to be sustainable areas that generate wealth and that can free the economy of dependence on oil.
Without giving figures, he said that Cuando Cubango was granted several credit policies, with emphasis on the Support Fund for the Development of Agriculture (FADA), the Informal Economy Reconversion Program (PREI), in addition to other actions that allowed the reduction of bureaucracy in the treatment of documents for the incorporation of companies.
He informed that as a result of these policies, this year, close to 100 young people with agricultural production initiatives received funding for agriculture through the FADA to meet production needs, increase employability and help families.
The opening act of the Global Money Week was attended by the director of the Southeast Region of the National Bank of Angola, Alberto Alfredo, distinguished provincial government officials, traditional and ecclesiastical authorities, high school students, among other guests.
