Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Benguela, Luis Nunes, considered, this Tuesday, the transfer of the concession of railway services and logistics support of the Lobito Corridor to the management consortium, as an immeasurable gain for the revitalization of the national economy.
In his speech at the signing ceremony of the transfer contract, Luís Nunes stressed that this logistics platform will increase efficiency and competitiveness, as well as boosting employment, giving prospects of a better life, especially for younger people.
“The Lobito Corridor will have a significant impact on accelerating the process of sustainable development in the country in general and in the province in particular”, he said.
The governor also said that, through the modernized, technologically advanced and rigorously managed maritime and rail transport infrastructures, logistical costs will be reduced not only in the Angolan economy, but also in the neighboring countries linked by the project. Lobito Corridor.
He reminded those present about the province’s potential, referring to the agricultural, fishing, salt and manufacturing sectors, as well as pleasant points for investment that could be galvanized with the operationalization of the Lobito Corridor.
The Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium, made up of companies Trafigura, Vecturis and Mota-Engoil, signed yesterday, with the Angolan Government, represented by the Ministry of Transport, the transfer of the concession of rail and logistics services to support the Lobito Corridor.
The consortium will operate the Corridor for 30 years and the aforementioned concession could be extended to up to 50 years, with the condition of building a branch link to Zambia, according to a clause in the contract.
