Governor wants more private investment

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Lunda Norte, Deolinda Satula Vilarinho, said that the province needs private investment in the manufacturing industry, tourism, hotels, commerce and agriculture sectors, to boost its economy.

Speaking to the press, on the occasion of the day of the division of the then province of Lunda, which is celebrated yesterday, Deolinda Vilarinho said that the local government has been starting contacts with some multinationals to attract them to the district and implement their businesses.

“In order to attract investment, we sent some letters of invitation to national and foreign businessmen, for the implementation of large commercial areas in Lunda-Norte, mainly supermarkets, which are sorely needed”, he stressed.

He added that technicians from the provincial government are in the country’s capital, Luanda, working with potential investors in the fields of Commerce, Hospitality, Tourism and Agriculture.

“Lunda-Norte cannot be seen as an exclusively diamond province, therefore, due to other existing potentialities, it is open to private investment”, he stressed.

On the other hand, he said that the rehabilitation, construction and requalification of the main roads, with a view to ensuring the fluidity of commercial exchanges, social, cultural and sports interaction, between the different districts, constitute the priority.

The road network in Lunda-Norte is one of the most extensive in the country, with more than six thousand kilometres, of which around one thousand, which include national roads, are already built.

Of the main ongoing projects in the road infrastructure sector, the construction works for national roads 225, 180 and 230, which connect Lunda Norte to the country’s coast and the provinces of Lunda Sul and Moxico, stand out.

The other priority of the local government, he continued, is the completion of the works on the multipurpose pavilion in Chitato, whose works have been paralyzed for about seven years.

He said that another contractor has already been hired for this purpose and that the work will resume shortly.

Deolinda Vilarinho also highlighted the work to expand the Luachimo hydroelectric dam, now in its final phase.

The works that made it possible to increase the electricity production capacity from 8 to 34 megawatts are practically completed and the dam could come into full operation in August this year.

In addition to the city of Dundo, the project will guarantee the supply of electricity to the municipality of Cambulo, starting with the localities of Fucauma, Cassangudi, Luxilo, N’zagi, and the municipality of Lucapa, for a total of 10,600 beneficiary families.

At the moment, according to the governor, survey work is underway for the start of rehabilitation works on the high voltage transmission lines from the Dundo substations to Fucauma.

Another structuring project in the energy sector has to do with photovoltaic parks, with those in the municipalities of Lucapa and Xá-Muteba already in their final stages.

According to the minister, the next ones to be installed are those in the municipalities of Chitato, Cambulo and Cuango, in the locality of Cafunfu.

The other challenge for the government of Lunda Norte has to do with improving the basic sanitation system in the city of Dundo, including the requalification of the main arteries, with the placement of new public lighting posts.

Lunda-Norte, with almost one million inhabitants, results from the division of the former province of Lunda, on July 4, 1978. It is located in the east of the country and comprises the municipalities of Chitato (political and economic capital), Cambulo, Caungula, Cuilo, Cuango, Capenda Camulemba, Lucapa, Lubalo, Lóvua and Xá-Muteba.

Deolinda Vilarinho is the eighth to govern the province, being the first woman in office, after Ernesto Muangala (2008 -2022), João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade” (1978-1983), Silvério Gelim Paim (1983-1986), Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa” (1986-1991), José Salucombo (1991-1992), Francisco Moisés Nele (1992-1997) and Gomes Maiato (1997-2008).
