Africa-Press – Angola. Halavala Centrality, located in the municipality of Bailundo, 75 kilometers from the city of Huambo, inaugurated yesterday by the President of the Republic, will house 3,005 families.
President João Lourenço cut the ribbon and unveiled the plaque that symbolizes the opening of the process of accessing and using the residences, in the morning, to the ovation of hundreds of citizens from neighborhoods in the municipality of Bailundo, who went to the place to witness the act.
After the ribbon was cut, the President of the Republic, who did not make any statements to the press, took a long time to visit the Medical Center, with 23 beds, most of which are for children, and the Professional Technical Institute, with 12 rooms, in the central , at the first point, made the delivery of an ambulance.
At the end of the visit, the Head of State, who ended his two-day visit to Huambo, today, with a mass political act, handed over the keys to the first three residents of the Halavala Centrality.
Jeremias Katiavala, one of the recipients, said he had fulfilled one of his main dreams. Aged 29 and living in the municipality of Bailundo, the young man, who is dedicated to entrepreneurship, said that the house where he is currently living lacks better conditions of habitability.
“My living conditions will improve significantly, taking into account the existing ones here in the centrality. I never thought that one day I would live in a centrality!”, he said.
Another beneficiary was Anacleto Chivala, 60 years old. Former combatant and veteran of the country, this citizen considered the conquest of the house, in the centrality, a great recognition of the Angolan State for the effort made in favor of the country. “I’ve waited a lot for this moment”, said, visibly moved, Anacleto Chivala, who had lived in a rented house for 15 years.
Centrality of Halavala
The Halavala Centrality, built in a state land reserve, of about 100 square meters, consists of four-storey buildings with eight apartments each, and one- and two-storey houses, all of the T3 type, in a total of 3005 dwellings. .
Housing capacity is over 21,000 residents, based on a seven-member household.
In terms of social facilities, it has two kindergartens with nine classrooms, two primary schools with 24 classrooms, two kindergartens with 12 classrooms, a secondary school with 12 classrooms, a Professional Technical Institute with 12 classrooms, a Medical Center with 23 beds, two sports courts and a police station, inaugurated, also yesterday, by the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho.
As far as infrastructure is concerned, the Halavala Central Station has a water supply system, waste water treatment, electricity transport and transformation and a rainwater routing system. The centrality, the third that the province of Huambo wins, also includes 210 commercial establishments and green spaces.
National Urbanism and Housing Program
The Minister of Public Works and Territorial Planning, Manuel Tavares, said that these types of centralities, with integrated infrastructure, under construction in several provinces of the country, fall within the scope of the National Program for Urbanism and Housing, which has been running since 2009 and highlights the ability of the Government of Angola to organize and transform the territory into resilient, inclusive and environmentally friendly cities of quality of life and human dignity.
He added that they respond, in a positive way, to the commitment assumed by the member states of UN-Habitat (United Nations Program for Human Settlements) of which Angola is a member of the Executive Council.
“This imposing centrality of Halavala joins a general urban fabric of the province of Huambo that, within the scope of the National Program for Urbanism and Housing, has two more centralities already inaugurated and inhabited”, he said.
The minister referred to the centralities of Lossambo, in the municipality of Huambo, which is already fully occupied, and of Fernandes Faustino Muteka, in Caála, with 3,300 residents, out of the 4,000 and one housing units in the project.
