Africa-Press – Angola. The inclusion of right back Francisca Araújo is the new addition to Carlos Viver’s call-up for the preparatory cycle of the senior women’s national handball team, part of the IHF week, which has been taking place since yesterday in Luanda. The player trained at Progresso Sambizanga has dual nationality and has already played for Cape Verde, in a tournament in Portugal. According to a source close to the athlete from Bera Bera in Spain, where she was crowned champion of the 2024 Iberian Super Cup, Francisca Araújo accepted the invitation and is on her way to Luanda to join the Pérolas.

In 2023, in the Batalha International Tournament, in Portugal, with the participation of the hosts, Italy, Spain and Cape Verde, the right-back was the top scorer, with 18 goals.

Carlos Viver called up 21 handball players, eight of whom are from 1.o de Agosto, a team he was linked to until a few months ago. Petro de Luanda, national and African champions, contributed five athletes.

Marta Alberto, Domingas Pangu and Eliane Paulo (goalkeepers), Liliane Mário and Donana Epalanga (pivots), Marcela Tati, Naíria Caquintas and Mbongo Masseu (left wingers), Natália Fonseca, Florença Francisca and Dolores do Rosário (right wingers), Aznaide Carlos, Francisca Araújo and Juliana Machado (right backs), Stélvia Pascoal, Magda Cazanga, Vilma Nenganga and Bernardeth Belo (left backs), Helena Paulo, Georgina Chivela and Chélcia Gabriel (centers), are the athletes called up.

The IHF week, according to a note from the Federation, runs from the 21st to the 27th of this month.

The work of the Pearls, this IHF week, may be hampered by the absence of the Petro de Luanda players, since the team only leaves Moroccan soil, where it was crowned continental champion, in the town of Laayoune, on Thursday, due to the change of flight, initially scheduled for last Sunday.

The National Team will compete from November 27 to December 7 in the African Nations Championship, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), qualifying for the 2025 World Cup, to be co-organized by Germany and the Netherlands.
