Head of State Celebrates National Unity on Independence 50Th

Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, stated on Wednesday in Luanda that this year’s celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence highlighted the unity of the Angolan people and the collective commitment to finding solutions to the challenges that still persist.

In his traditional Yearend Message to the Nation, João Lourenço emphasized that Angola will end 2025 with peace and national unity.

According to him, the festivities of the 50 years of national sovereignty (independence) took place in a climate of harmony and communion, with recognition of the contribution of citizens from all social sections who distinguished themselves in the conquest of Independence, in the consolidation of peace and national reconciliation, and in the country’s process of overcoming challenges.

He added that during the year it was possible to observe in many of the public demonstrations that accompanied this commemoration that “Angolans remain united and committed to seeking the best possible solutions to the problems that still afflict us”.

At the same time, he highlighted the opportunity provided to Angolan families to share “moments of great emotion, with a spirit of communion and hope for the future.”

He reiterated that the Angolan government will continue to prioritize social sectors, namely health, education, housing and social assistance, in parallel with strengthening democratic institutions and building essential infrastructure for the harmonious development of the Nation.

The president also referred to the recently released census results, according to which Angola already has more than 36 million inhabitants, with a tendency to increase.

In this regard, he emphasizes that population growth increases the responsibilities of governance and requires the contribution of all in building the Nation and preserving the achievements attained over the years.

He highlighted the enormous potential represented by Angolan youth, which needs to be properly guided and supported, better explored and used to benefit the country’s development.

According to him, the Angolan government maintains programs aimed at improving the living conditions of the population, encouraging the growth of the private and cooperative sectors, with a view to creating more jobs and increasing the supply of essential goods.

He also highlighted that representatives from all over the world “have been among us at different times and have praised what we have been doing, encouraging us to remain committed to our achievements”.

Reflection and solidarity

Regarding the Festive Season, President João Lourenço expressed his hope that this moment will also serve as a time for reflection “on our conduct and behavior towards our own family, the community around us and society in general”.

He appealed for a gesture of solidarity in favor of those Angolans who will still need care, whether due to illness or because they have not yet overcome some of the needs that most afflict them.

João Lourenço expressed his solidarity with all those who cannot reunite with their families because they are carrying out missions in priority areas, such as hospitals or military and police units, to guarantee order and security for all.

The Head of State concluded by wishing all Angolans a Merry Christmas and a New Year marked by achievements and the implementation of goals.
