Africa-Press – Angola. Paulo Madeira, the Secretary of State for Sport, praised the initiative of Real Madrid footballer Eduardo Camavinga to build a football academy in Angola, calling it of paramount importance for the country.

Speaking at the end of his meeting with the Real Madrid player, Madeira, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, said that Camavinga’s intention will bring many gains in the future given that he is a universal reference and a son of Angola.

“We need role models for our young people and athletes. Clearly, Camavinga is a prominent figure in world sports today. More than any club or organizational structure intending to develop an academy in Angola, it is important to us, the government, to have a fellow Angolan return home and use his international success to leave a legacy in his homeland,” Madeira said.

The official stated that the meeting with the player and his family was fruitful and that the Angolan government will do everything possible to ensure the project materializes.

He guaranteed that his ministry will do its part to ensure progress is made as planned, adding that the state does not develop private projects, but rather provides institutional support.

Eduardo Camavinga on his turn confirmed that his visit to Luanda is to analyze the conditions for opening a sports academy with an academic component. In his opinion, the two should be interconnected.

“Yes, I am in my country to contribute to the futures of children and young people,” he said.

Regarding the meeting with the Secretary of State, Camavinga stated that he received assurances of full support for his future endeavors.

The Angolan player, who was born in Cabinda and plays for Real Madrid, has been in Luanda since Monday and will visit the Kuzola foster center for a charity event Tuesday.
