Head of State Considers AU Presidency a Victory for Angolans

Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço considered on Sunday, Feb 16, in Addis Ababa, that chairing the African Union is a victory for Angolans.

This is the very first time that Angola will be at the helm of the continental organization founded in 1963, so “Angolans are to be congratulated”, he highlighted.

However, the President admitted, in statements to the press, that it will be a mandate with many challenges, mainly in the area of peace and security, as the continent is going through a difficult time in that regard, but not only that, it is also a challenge in terms of trying to boost the countries’ economies as much as possible.

“We’ll focus, above all, on seeking to mobilize resources for the infrastructures that our continent lacks”, he said.

He stressed that, to boost the economy, the continent needs, above all, roads and railways, and airlines that operate from one country to another, in order to avoid the need to travel to other continents and then return to Africa.

“Therefore, the focus will be on roads, railways, airports and, above all, energy infrastructures”, he highlighted.

João Lourenço took over the African Union presidency during the continental organization’s 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government taking place in Addis Ababa.
