Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Huambo will receive, next May, 14 new magistrates from the Public Ministry, to improve the services of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in this region, announced this Monday, the deputy provincial prosecutor, Deodato José Inácio.

With this reinforcement, the PGR in the province of Huambo will now have a total of 42 magistrates from the Public Ministry in full capacity, which will make it possible to respond to various questions in the criminal, civil and administrative spheres, work room, family and other essential areas. towards citizens in the 11 municipalities of this region.

Deodato José Inácio was speaking at the opening of the PGR Legality Week, as part of the celebrations of the institution’s 45th anniversary, to be celebrated on the 27th of this month, under the motto “Public Ministry and the protection of the environment, challenges and perspectives”.

On the occasion, the provincial prosecutor said that the new magistrates will be placed in municipalities where there are no PGR services to date, namely in Cachiungo, Chinjenje, Longonjo, Mungo and Ucuma.

He said that, taking into account the needs of the province of Huambo, this initiative will bring great gains to the defense of the legality of the region’s citizens and, at the same time, avoid the excess of presumed cases of preventive detention, on the part of citizens in conflict with the law.

He highlighted that, during the 45 years of the PGR’s existence, monitoring legality has been exercised as a true priesthood and spirit of mission, always based on the principle of respect for legality, which consists of achieving justice and achieving social peace.

For her part, the governor of the province of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, considered the traditional PGR Legality Week important, as it promotes ethical and educational values ​​in society, for the social well-being of citizens.

He said that the event initiative brings opportunities for reflection on various environmental issues, which aim to conserve flora, fauna and maintain ecological balance, which the PGR needs to take on, through the dissemination of legal instruments, to mitigate the harmful effects of the destruction of nature.

He mentioned that there are countless cases of fires, disorderly exploitation of mineral resources, pollution of river waters and other evils, which put future generations and the preservation of biodiversity at risk, which requires greater responsibility from everyone in society.

The province of Huambo is part of the Central Judiciary region, which covers Benguela, Bié and Cuanza Sul.

During the traditional Legality Week, from the 22nd to the 27th of this month, among other activities, legal consultations for citizens, radio debates, lectures and visits to the Huambo landfill and Cambiote Penitentiary Establishment will be held, to raise legal awareness of citizens.

The PGR in Angola was established on April 27th by Law No. 4 of 1979, the date on which it ceased to be part of the bodies of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and became a body dependent on the President of the Republic, as Head of State and highest Magistrate of the Nation.

Under the terms of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, in its articles 185 and 186, the functions of the PGR include representing the State in the exercise of criminal action, defending the rights of natural and legal persons, legality in the exercise of the jurisdictional function and supervision of legality in the preparatory investigation phase of processes and the execution of sentences.
