Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy public prosecutor in Huíla, Celma da Silva Lourenço, highlighted, this Saturday, that the province is a “good” example of combating corruption, registering a slowdown in crimes of this kind.

Speaking to the press, as part of the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the institutionalization of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) marked on Saturday, the judge stated that the ongoing measures of repression and awareness carried out by this body of justice are slowing down the prosecution of corruption crimes.

Although there are anti-corruption cases being processed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the prosecutor considered the level of slowdown in cases from mid-2023 to date “positive” in cases of corruption, embezzlement and other related cases.

For Celma da Silva Lourenço, this slowdown does not presuppose an absence of work, on the contrary “it is a clear sign that the policies and measures, both at the level of the PGR and other awareness-raising institutions, are having the desired effects”.

“It means that there is engagement on the part of managers in what is their responsibility with the management of public assets in the measures we have adopted, not only repressive ones, but, above all, prevention ones, through awareness raising”, he explained.

This year, 24 economic crime cases are being processed by the Huíla PGR.
