IGAPE highlights recovery of Angola Telecom

Africa-Press – Angola. The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Institute for the Management of Assets and Participations of the State (IGAPE), Patrício Vilar, highlighted this Thursday the continuous recovery of the company Angola Telecom, highlighting the work performed by it in the negotiation with the suppliers and customers.

Patrício Vilar, who made these statements at the end of a working meeting between IGAPE and Angola Telecom, referred that this recovery aims to “clean up a history that Angola Telecom brings with it, a significant liability”.

According to the official, today Angola Telecom presents positive net results, despite acknowledging that there is still a lot of work to be done.

“There is investment work that needs to be better coordinated with other market players. It doesn’t make much sense, we are all building fiber optic networks in the same place”, he mentioned.

He highlighted the need for inter-coordination work between the various companies that have been making optical fiber.

He made it known that these companies are not necessarily only in the telecommunications sector, but also in the energy, water distribution and railway sectors.

Continuing, he advanced that an integration of investment is necessary, because resources are scarce and there must be a rational use of them.

Asked about the privatization of Angola Telecom, he stressed that it could not be done through the stock exchange (at least at this stage), because of the company’s economic and financial situation.

“First is to follow the path, namely the reduction of reserves raised by the external auditor, and also the reduction of liabilities that the company has”, he continued.

According to the head of IGAPE, Angola Telecom not only has liabilities, it also has customer debts.

In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of Angola Telecom, Adilson dos Santos, said that the concerns presented to IGAPE are related to the company’s history, liabilities and the best form of resolution.

Questioned about Angola Telecom’s weak appearance, the official indicated that the company is operating in various market niches, such as wholesale, corporate and residential.

“Angola Telecom exists, and in the provinces, with great capacity”, he asserted.

PCA of the State Asset Management and Participation Institute (IGAPE), Patrício Vilar, visited Angola Telecom as part of the follow-up program for companies in the public business sector.
