Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Transport, Jorge Bengue, said, in Ndalatando, Cuanza-Norte province, that the transport of people and goods from the countryside to the city and vice versa is increasingly facilitated with the entry into circulation of new buses.
Jorge Bengue, who was speaking, on Monday, during the delivery of 20 buses for the transport of passengers to economic operators in the region, with the purpose of strengthening intercity routes, within the scope of the Public Transport Expansion Program 2018/2022 , added that the province of Cuanza-Norte has 55 buses, after having received, last year, 35 vehicles, considered by the Secretary of State, still insufficient, judging by the number of people in need.
According to Jorge Bengue, the transport of passengers and goods in the municipalities in the interior of Cuanza-Norte became cheaper with the introduction of these means, which will also facilitate the flow of agricultural products to various parts of the country.
In turn, the acting director-general of the National Institute of Road Transport, Énio Costa, said that each bus is valued at 58 million kwanzas and, according to the terms of the promissory contract, each operator must give, as a down payment, about three million kwanzas.
According to the official, the contract provides for a grace period of six months, after which the operator will pay the State 461,000 kwanzas per month.
Énio Costa revealed that, so far, a total of 1,231 buses have been delivered nationwide.
On the occasion, the provincial governor of Cuanza-Norte, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, acknowledged the contribution of public transport to improving the circulation of the population in various locations in the province.
Adriano Mendes de Carvalho assured that the Government will continue to work for the well-being of all Angolans, with the execution of several projects aimed at improving the quality of life.
He appealed to the operators to take good care of the buses and to comply with all the conditions set out in the contract.
