Africa-Press – Angola. The head of Provincial Services at the National Children’s Institute (INAC) in Huambo, Eusébio Evaristo, Monday, encouraged society to denounce all cases of economic exploitation and child labor.

The official on the occasion of the World Day against Child Labour, celebrated annually on the 12th of June, with the aim of strengthening mechanisms for diagnosing and combating the phenomenon, judging by the consequences in guaranteeing the well-being and future of minors.

On the occasion, Eusébio Evaristo informed that the institution notified, from January to the present date, 45 cases of child labor, characterized by street sales, provision of domestic services and in private institutions, in addition to the involvement of minors in quarrying and agriculture activities in the rural areas.

He said that this is a very worrying situation, mainly in the informal sector, where the complexity is greater, due to the nature of the exercise of the activity.

He pointed out the lack of a culture of denunciation, with emphasis on informal work, as one of the main constraints in combating the phenomenon, despite its legal prohibition and the actions that have been taken to put an end to the situation and guarantee the well-being of being of the children.

He mentioned that work and child exploitation result, mainly, from the social difficulties that families face, hence the orientation of guardians so that minors also contribute to mitigating the need.

Eusébio Evaristo said it was a negative attitude, because in the intention of resolving specific situations, parents and guardians have ended up compromising the future of children.

For this reason, he appealed to them for the need to renounce these practices and contribute to the implementation of public policies aimed at promoting the protection of children’s rights, well-being and harmonious development, with a view to guaranteeing the future of the country.

June 12 was established in 2002 by the International Labor Organization (ILO) as World Day against Child Labor, with the aim of alerting the population to the reality of many children, who are forced to work in their daily lives. everyday life when your routine should be going to school, as well as joining efforts in a global movement to eliminate child labor.

In Angola, the practice is disapproved by the General Labor Law, in force, Law 7/15 of 15 June), which establishes, in its article 254, the legal regime for the work of minors, giving special protection to children against exploitation economy and child labor.

This legal regime establishes the validity of the legal employment relationship with minors who have completed 14 years, the minimum age for admission to work and conditioned by the authorization of their parents, guardian, legal representative, person or suitable institution that has the minor in their charge or in their the General Labor Inspectorate is lacking.
