Africa-Press – Angola. Domingas Nkai, an Angolan athlete, won the bronze medal in the weight throw event at the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) Games in Dili, Timor-Leste.
At the Dili Municipal Stadium, Nkai threw 8.21 meters. She was surpassed by Portugal’s Margarida Bento, who won with a mark of 13.07 meters, and Cape Verde’s Sacha Semedo, who took silver with a throw of 10.15 meters.
The host country’s representative, Joviana da Costa, finished fourth and last throwing 8 meters. Tuesday will feature the long jump, the 200-meter dash, the 3,000-meter race for men, and the 100-meter dash for adapted athletes.
The Angola national team has won three bronze medals, in addition to the two won in taekwondo by Domilde Fernando (-55 kg) and Jasmine Amaral (-46 kg).
Angola’s delegation is participating in karate, taekwondo, beach volleyball, chess, tennis, soccer, men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, and conventional and adapted track and field events.
The 12th edition of the CPLP Games involves athletes from Portugal, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, and Angola.
The first edition took place in Portugal in 1992 and was created as a social gathering for young people from Portuguese-speaking countries.
