Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Provincial Services of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Leão Mucazo Cazade, praised this Friday, the collaboration of the population in providing information to field agents, within the scope of the Pilot Census that runs since the 7th of the current month.
Speaking to the press, regarding the process, Leão Cazede said that as a result of the “good” collaboration of the agents, the process runs smoothly and already exceeds expectations.
“So far we have not come across any objections from the population,
on the contrary, households receive our field agents well and pass on all the necessary information, which in itself represents an act of citizenship and cooperation and the importance that citizens give to the process,” he stressed.
Without revealing the number of census sections already worked on, the official said that by the end of the process, agents will collect data in the 115 selected, 25 in the commune of Canzar (Cambulo municipality) and 90 in Luachimo (Chitato).
He appealed to the population to continue collaborating with the agents, taking into account the importance of the process in defining public policies.
The Pilot Census will take place between the 19th of July and the 19th of August in the provinces of Bengo, Bié, Cuando Cubango, Cunene, Luanda, Lunda Norte and Uíge, with the aim of testing the level of readiness for the intervention of all associated procedures operational, logistical, technical-functional and organizational implementation, for the success of the general population census to take place in 2024.
In Lunda Norte, 174 census agents and supervisors ensured the process, of which 148 were working in the municipality of Chitato and 25 in Cambulo.
Angola has already carried out two general population and housing censuses, namely in 1970, during the colonial period, and in 2014, after national independence, with the 2024 statistical registration being the third census operation that the country will carry out.
The 2014 statistical record, the second census carried out by the country, indicated that the province of Lunda Norte had, at the time, 862,566 inhabitants.
The projections of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) indicate that in 2024, the population of the province of Lunda Norte could reach one million and 150 thousand.
