Africa-Press – Angola. The Interclube team won the 2025 edition of the Angola Cup in Senior Women’s Basketball, beating Formigas do Cazenga 53-50 in the final yesterday, at the Cidadela Gymnastics Pavilion. The unprecedented final was decided in the last seconds with both teams putting on a great show for the public, with the presence of the president of FIBA Africa, Aníbal Manave, accompanied by the president of the Angolan Basketball Federation, Moniz Silva, standing out.
The game pitted two different realities against each other: on one side, Interclube, a team with tradition and titles, on the other, the fierce Formigas do Cazenga, considered the sensation of the season and who reached the final after a surprising and meritorious run.
The match started off quite competitive, with the visitors coming out better and taking control of the scoreboard in the first few minutes, thanks to their efficiency in their outside shots.
The team from the National Police, with greater depth in the squad and experience in decisive games, managed to respond before half-time, reversing the disadvantage. They then built up a double-digit lead (34-24) at the end of the first half.
Upon returning from the locker room, the warriors, coached by João Formosa, showed their mettle again. They adjusted defensively, created difficulties for the team under Fernando Sapalo and reduced the difference by imposing a partial of 14-6 in the third quarter.
The game entered the last period with Interclube leading by two points (40-38), and the balance remained. The Formigas fought but in the decisive moments the competitive maturity of the hosts prevailed (53-50), as they knew how to better manage their nerves and control the final moments.
